Back to Questions Which is better, Teflon tape or pipe compound? answer20.jpg (18771 bytes)

.
Personal preference, as well as, the immediate problem, are the determining factor in which product to use.

Teflon products, either tape form or paste form are recommended for plastic pipe.  However, standard Teflon tape should never be used on gas installations.  There is Teflon tape made specifically for gas pipe.

The mistake a lot of people make with Teflon tape is simply not applying enough wraps to fill the threads.  Pipe compound is preferable on things like faucet seats, and pipe joints that are hard to access.
